Letting Go of What No Longer Serves You

Back in Girl Scouts we sang a song: “Make new friends, and keep the old. One is silver and the other’s gold.”

I feel that way about my new and old brands now. I don’t want to erase all that my former brand, Viva Visibility,  meant to me or gave to the world, but I also know I need to move into this new brand: T.A.G. – The Intersection of Talent and Genius.

I’ll be very transparent: I’m not good at cutting ties. I prolong goodbyes. I turn back and take last glances. I second guess myself. I run back to stay.

The feeling of leaving an old brand is like leaving a relationship that you know is over… but you find it hard to leave. It’s so familiar and so easy to sink back into the same old routine, living on auto-pilot.

That way of being doesn’t cut it for me anymore!

My life lessons right now are showing up strongly in my business. I must fearlessly move forward.

I invite you to fearlessly join me on this adventure!

I feel that it’s important to let things go that no longer serve us. I want to serve YOU in a bigger way, in a deeper way, in a way that is going to call into question what you believe about yourself, how you express that in your business, and where that can take you.

I’m ready to witness you rise to the top, hold your hand when the climb is tough, and plant a flag on the summit alongside you.

My advice to you:  position yourself so your ideal clients  know the type of results they can get from you, that you’re the one for them, and why you’re the obvious choice.

5. You use results based language so people know you’re the best choice

6. You engage your target market online and offline so they get to know, like, and trust you

10. You have a network of colleagues, referral partners, and other businesses to share opportunities with.

Have You Forgotten Who You Really Are?

There’s an identity crisis rampant in the online marketing world.

People don’t know who they are anymore. And they’ve run out of words to describe things. Perhaps you’ll recognize some of these?

The fear of failure has turned many amazing folks into boring old clones… and the situation keeps getting worse.

I talk to so many people gripped by fear. They’re making moves they “think” are smart, but really it’s just a copy of what someone else is doing.

From the language they’re using in their marketing to how they describe themselves, it’s just one big boring snore-fest.

You know what I mean… and if you interact with me on Facebook, you know how much juice comes out of these observations when I post them.

Sure, I get plenty of amens and hallelujahs on Facebook, but what I really want to see is CHANGE.

I want to see people get back in the driver’s seat of their own business and stop living in this place of fear.

Like you, I want simplicity. I don’t want complicated approaches to success because frankly the world is complicated enough. I want my business to be a sanctuary, a creative expression that fills my bank account and allows me the freedom to do the things I love with people I love.

I want the same for you.

Doesn’t that sound heavenly?

Here are 3 things you can do to get out of the doldrums and hit your stride:

1. Position yourself so your Talent and Genius shine.

Your Talents are the hard skills you’ve honed through life, work, education… and you do them well. Your Genius is that natural bundle of strengths you own. Nobody taught you to be intuitive, compassionate, analytical… you just have it.

2.  Don’t be a copycat.

If everyone is zigging,  I want you to zag. Make sound business decisions, but take a greater effort NOT to blend into the woodwork. See the image above to remind you of that.

3. Master your message and get it out there to the people who count- not EVERYONE.

You don’t have to court huge audiences- just connect with the people who’ll get you. The ones who you can easily build trust with. These are your ideal clients. You actually don’t need thousands of people on your list to be a success. You just need to get the word out in front of your people… and let them know you’re a solution for them! From that point you can make offers, help people get results, and have a very profitable business.

Spotting Your Talent

My daughter went for a walk with her uncle and his family along the shores of San Francisco Bay.

Like any kid would do, she picked up rocks and threw them into the water, sometimes to skip them, at other times to see how far they would go.

Her uncle noticed she had a pretty good arm. And being a coach to his daughter’s softball team, he became curious.

“Who taught you to throw like that?” he asked.

“Throw like what?”, she replied.

“Like THAT!”, pointing to the ripples far away in the distance.

“I dunno”, she shrugged and ran off to rescue a piece of driftwood from between two larger stones.

In a moment of childlike playfulness, my daughter did what all kids do when faced with calm waters and a rocky shore: she picked up a stone and threw it into the water.

And in a moment of keen observation, her uncle saw raw talent with immense potential.

She had no idea she possessed the skill.

Chances are, though, you may have trouble spotting your strengths and talents when you look at yourself. I hear this a lot from clients, especially the ones who are multi-talented.

You’re too close to see the forest from the trees. When you can’t articulate what you’re great at, then what are you really offering in the marketplace? Vagueness doesn’t sell. Neither does confusion as in “Today I’m a life coach! Tomorrow I’m a marketing expert! Next week I’m a social media trainer!”

Not having a handle on this is costing you in clients, new opportunities, and revenue. It’s that simple.

So what are you GREAT at that you’re not claiming?

Every moment spent NOT claiming your greatness and bringing it into your business, is money lost.
